ABNT Ecolabel

The ABNT Ecolabel is a voluntary environmental certification program for products and services sold in Brazil. Administered by ABNT (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas), Brazil's official national standards body, the program uses life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology to evaluate the environmental performance of a product or service across its entire life span — from raw material extraction through disposal. Certification is granted only after independent verification, and ABNT is accredited by Inmetro, Brazil's national metrology and quality institute, lending the program strong institutional credibility.

The program is open to manufacturers, service providers, and businesses across a wide range of industries, including construction, consumer goods, and manufacturing. It is particularly well suited for companies that want to demonstrate environmental responsibility to consumers, business partners, or public procurement officers. ABNT is also a member of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), meaning the label carries a degree of international recognition alongside its domestic authority.

Certified organizations earn the right to display the ABNT Ecolabel mark on their products or services, providing a credible, third-party-validated environmental claim. This can support access to green public procurement opportunities in Brazil, where environmental credentials are increasingly required, and help differentiate products in markets where environmentally conscious consumers are a key audience.
