Climatop

Climatop is a Swiss certification label that identifies the most climate-friendly products and services within a given product category. Rather than setting an absolute emissions threshold, it takes a best-in-class approach: comparable products within the same functional category are evaluated against one another, and only those whose CO2-equivalent emissions are at least 20% lower than the category average qualify for the label. Candidates must also demonstrate an overall environmental balance that is at least equal to or better than competing products that do not receive the label.

The certification is grounded in life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology, conducted by independent organizations in accordance with ISO 14040. This means emissions and environmental impacts are considered across the full life cycle of the product or service, not just at the point of manufacture or use. The label is valid for two years, after which products must be reassessed to maintain certification.

Climatop is relevant to manufacturers, producers, and suppliers across a wide range of industries — including construction, consumer goods, technology, energy, agriculture, and hospitality — who want to credibly differentiate their offerings on climate performance in the Swiss market. It is particularly suited for organizations that can demonstrate measurable emissions advantages over competitors within their product category.
