CRI Green Label

CRI Green Label is a voluntary certification program administered by the Carpet and Rug Institute that tests carpet, cushion, and adhesive products for volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Established in 1992, it is one of the longest-running indoor air quality programs in the flooring industry and is widely recognized by green building rating systems such as LEED and CHPS. The program offers two tiers: the original Green Label certification and the more stringent Green Label Plus tier, which sets a higher bar for the lowest-emitting products on the market.

The certification is designed for manufacturers of carpet, cushion, and adhesive products sold in the United States. Products are tested against scientifically established VOC emission standards, and those that qualify earn the right to display the CRI Green Label or Green Label Plus seal on marketing materials and product documentation. This makes certified products easier for architects, specifiers, and building owners to identify and specify in projects where indoor air quality compliance is required or preferred.

For manufacturers, CRI Green Label certification provides a recognized market differentiator in competitive commercial, institutional, and residential construction markets. It signals that a product meets credible third-party emission standards, and certified products may contribute to credits under LEED and other green building programs.
