Eco-Rail Mark

The Eco-Rail Mark is a Japanese ecolabel established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to recognize products and companies that reduce environmental impact by prioritizing rail freight over road or air transport. Rail transportation produces significantly lower carbon emissions per unit of cargo than trucking, and this certification signals a company's commitment to shifting its logistics practices accordingly.

To qualify, a product must either be transported entirely by land or, if multimodal transport is involved, travel at least 500 kilometers by land with 30% or more of that distance covered by rail. Both the products themselves and the companies that distribute them can receive certification, giving manufacturers and logistics operators a way to demonstrate their environmental commitments to customers and partners.

This certification is most relevant for companies in Japan operating in construction, manufacturing, or technology sectors that move physical goods across the country and are looking to reduce the carbon footprint of their supply chain. It is administered entirely within Japan and carries recognition from a national government ministry, lending it official credibility in the domestic market.
