ECOproduct

ECOproduct is a Norwegian database and assessment method that helps construction professionals select environmentally responsible building materials and chemical products. Developed in collaboration with Norwegian building industry organizations and major contractors, it draws on standardized Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and safety data sheets to evaluate the actual environmental properties of products — rather than relying on manufacturer claims alone.

Each product in the database is assessed and rated across four key environmental dimensions: Indoor Environment, Health and Environmentally Hazardous Substances, Global Warming Potential, and Resource Consumption. Chemical products are assessed for the health and hazardous substances dimension only. Results are displayed through a simple visual system using green, white, or red indicators for each category, making it easy to compare products at a glance. Users can also drill deeper into the underlying environmental data and view the full EPD or safety data sheet for any listed product.

ECOproduct is operated by Norsk Byggtjeneste AS (Norwegian Building Centre) and is primarily intended for architects, builders, project managers, and procurement professionals working on construction projects in Norway who want to make informed, evidence-based decisions about material selection.
