Energy Labelling of Buildings: EU

The Energy Labelling of Buildings program, governed by EU Directive 2002/91/EC, establishes a standardized framework for assessing and certifying the energy performance of buildings across European Union member states. Under this framework, an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) must be made available whenever a building is constructed, sold, or rented out — providing owners, buyers, and tenants with a clear picture of how energy-efficient a property is.

The certification covers a wide range of building systems and components, including the building envelope, windows, heating and cooling systems, ventilation, electrical installations, lighting, and heat sources such as boilers and combined heat and power (CHP) units.
