Green Crane: Ukraine

Green Crane is Ukraine's national environmental labelling program, and the only certification mark of its kind in the country. Established in 2002 and operated by Living Planet, it is a voluntary program that awards certification to products demonstrating a comparatively lower environmental impact than similar products on the market. It applies across a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, consumer goods, agriculture, and hospitality.

The program evaluates products across their entire lifecycle — from raw material extraction and manufacturing through to distribution, consumer use, and end-of-life disposal or recycling. Certification is based on multiple product-specific specifications and is designed to align with international eco-labelling standards. In 2004, Green Crane was audited by the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) and confirmed to meet ISO 14024 standards, the international benchmark for Type I environmental labelling programs.

Green Crane is relevant for manufacturers, suppliers, and businesses operating in Ukraine who want to credibly communicate the environmental credentials of their products to buyers and consumers. Because it is the sole Ukrainian eco-label of its kind, it carries particular weight in the local market as a recognized and independently verified environmental claim.
