Labs must complete a structured self-assessment across 14 core sustainability categories, document their practices and improvements, and submit results for independent third-party verification by Impact Laboratories. Evidence includes operational data on energy, water, waste, and engagement practices. A baseline assessment is required for initial certification but not for recertification.

The certification process follows four structured stages: (1) registration and baseline self-assessment across 14 sustainability categories; (2) implementation of sustainability improvements; (3) submission of documented evidence and results; (4) independent third-party verification by Impact Laboratories, which reviews submitted data and practices to confirm accuracy and integrity. Labs are then awarded a certification level — Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Green — based on the breadth and depth of sustainable practices adopted. There is no written exam.
Renewal & Compliance
Recertification is required every 2 years from the original certification date. Labs undergo a renewal assessment covering the same core sustainability categories; the baseline step is not required for recertification. Labs must demonstrate continued or improved sustainable practices to maintain their certification level.
