OK biobased

OK biobased is a certification scheme administered by TÜV AUSTRIA (formerly Vincotte) that verifies the renewable raw material content of bio-based products. It is designed for manufacturers in industries such as construction and manufacturing who use plant-derived or other renewable inputs — such as starch, cellulose, or lactic acid — as alternatives to fossil-based materials. The certification provides an independently verified, scientifically measurable guarantee of how much of a product's carbon content comes from biological rather than fossil sources.

Products are certified on a four-tier star scale based on their percentage of bio-based carbon content, ranging from one star to four stars. This tiered system allows for straightforward comparison between products and gives manufacturers a credible way to communicate the sustainability credentials of their materials to environmentally-conscious buyers.
