Salmon-Safe

Salmon-Safe is an Oregon-based nonprofit certification program that recognizes farms, vineyards, dairies, urban development sites, and corporate campuses committed to keeping Pacific Northwest watersheds clean enough to support native salmon populations. The certification is designed for agricultural and urban operations that want to demonstrate measurable commitment to water quality and native biodiversity through independently verified land and water management practices.

To earn certification, applicants are evaluated on criteria such as riparian habitat protection, reduction or elimination of pesticides harmful to aquatic life, stormwater and runoff management, and wetland restoration. The program has certified more than 400 sites across the West Coast, spanning both rural agricultural operations and urban built environments including construction and development projects.

Salmon-Safe is relevant for landowners, developers, farmers, and businesses operating in Pacific Northwest watersheds who want a credible, science-based standard for demonstrating environmental stewardship. Because the certification focuses specifically on watershed health and native fish habitat, it is particularly meaningful for operations located near rivers, streams, or other waterways where land use decisions directly affect downstream ecosystems.
