Windows Energy Rating Scheme (WERS)

The Window Energy Rating Scheme (WERS) is an Australian certification program that assesses and rates the energy performance of windows used in residential buildings. Administered by the Australian Window Association, WERS evaluates how a window product affects the overall energy consumption of a home — accounting for both heating and cooling loads — across any climate zone in Australia.

Windows that complete the WERS rating process receive a label displaying separate star ratings for cooling and heating performance, each scored on a scale of 0 to 10 stars. A higher star rating indicates a greater positive contribution to the home's energy efficiency. This standardised label allows builders, specifiers, and homeowners to make informed comparisons between window products when designing or constructing a home.
