AB (Agriculture Biologique)

AB (Agriculture Biologique) is France's official national organic certification label, established in 1985 and managed since 2008 by L'Agence BIO, the French agency dedicated to developing and promoting organic agriculture. To carry the AB logo, products must contain more than 95% organically produced ingredients and must be produced or processed within the European Union by an operator certified through an accredited inspection body compliant with EN 45011 (now ISO/IEC 17065) standards.

The certification is relevant for a wide range of operators in the agricultural supply chain, including farmers, food processors, distributors, and restaurateurs who want to market their products as organic in France. Because the AB logo is one of the most widely recognized organic marks among French consumers and retailers, obtaining it signals a strong, government-backed commitment to organic standards and opens doors to the French organic market.

Certified operators earn the right to display the AB logo on their products, supporting consumer trust and compliance with EU organic labeling requirements. L'Agence BIO also runs national promotion campaigns — such as the Bioréflexe initiative — that certified operators can benefit from, adding further market visibility beyond the label itself.
