American Grassfed

The American Grassfed Association (AGA) certification is a product label program for U.S. farms and ranches that raise animals on 100% forage-based diets from birth to harvest. To qualify, animals must have eaten nothing but mother's milk and fresh grass or grass-type hay throughout their lives — never grain — and must have been raised on open pasture rather than in confinement. The program also prohibits the use of hormones and antibiotics. It covers a wide range of products including beef, bison, lamb, goat, pork, poultry, eggs, and dairy.

The certification is best suited for American family farms and ranches that already follow — or are committed to — these practices and want a credible, consumer-facing label to communicate that. Compliance is verified through independent, third-party on-farm audits conducted by Animal Welfare Approved, making it one of the more rigorous grassfed certifications available. The program has been rated "Excellent" by Consumer Reports for consumer trust and transparency.

Certified producers earn the right to display the AGA logo on product labels and marketing materials, helping differentiate their products in a crowded marketplace. Beyond the label itself, certification connects producers to AGA's broader network of support, including advocacy, education, and policy programs focused on promoting grassfed and pasture-based farming across the United States.
