A basic recyclability or take-back strategy is required.

Renewable Energy and Carbon Management evaluates the manufacturer's energy profile and carbon footprint. At Bronze, companies must complete an energy and carbon inventory for their manufacturing operations and commit to a renewable energy improvement plan, even if full renewable energy use is not yet achieved.

Water Stewardship requires companies to assess their water use and wastewater quality at manufacturing facilities. Bronze requires completion of a water audit and identification of priority areas for improvement, with a commitment to responsible water management practices.

Social Fairness evaluates labor practices, human rights, and community impact across the company's operations and supply chain. At Bronze, companies must complete a social audit against C2CPII's social fairness framework, identify risks, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in worker welfare and community relations.

Cradle to Cradle Certified is widely regarded as the most rigorous and comprehensive circular economy product standard available globally. Unlike single-attribute labels (e.g., recycled content claims or energy efficiency ratings), C2C Certified evaluates products across five interconnected sustainability dimensions, making it a preferred credential for companies seeking to demonstrate holistic product stewardship. It is particularly well-established in the building products, textiles, furniture, and consumer goods sectors, with certified products from brands such as IKEA, Interface, Tarkett, and Herman Miller.

The standard has gained significant traction in Europe, where EU policy frameworks including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the Green Claims Directive, and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) are creating regulatory tailwinds for circular economy credentials. C2C Certified is increasingly referenced in public procurement specifications and retailer sustainability programs, particularly in the Netherlands, Germany, and Scandinavia.
