EcoMark Africa

EcoMark Africa (EMA) is a sustainability ecolabel developed specifically for the African continent. It establishes threshold criteria and indicators that reflect the environmental and social conditions relevant to African industries, covering sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and hospitality. The standard is designed so that existing certification systems can be benchmarked against it, and accredited certifiers can use it to evaluate and certify companies directly.

The program aims to provide a single, continent-wide label that signals sustainably produced goods and services across multiple sectors. Rather than relying on international standards that may not account for African contexts, EMA offers a framework tailored to local realities. Businesses that meet the standard's requirements are eligible to display the EcoMark Africa ecolabel on their products.

EMA places particular emphasis on supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), helping them gain formal sustainability recognition and access niche markets where eco-certified products command greater demand. The program is based in South Africa and is intended to grow as a credible signal of sustainable production across the continent.
