Environmental Warrant of Fitness

The Environmental Warrant of Fitness (EWOF) Site Standard is a New Zealand certification designed for small, single-site businesses that want formal recognition of their environmental management practices. It covers ten areas of environmental performance, including waste management, water and energy consumption, stormwater management, product origin, end-of-life practices, supplier communication, consumer information, and general housekeeping. Certification is valid for 12 months, with the expiry date displayed on the EWOF logo.

The standard is aimed at businesses that may not have the resources or scale to pursue larger environmental management frameworks, but still want to demonstrate a credible commitment to operating responsibly. By meeting the EWOF Site Standard, businesses signal to consumers and the wider community that their on-site activities are being managed with environmental accountability in mind.

Verification is straightforward and accessible: businesses undergo a desktop assessment and an independent referee check, rather than a full on-site audit. This makes the certification practical for smaller operations while still providing a meaningful, externally validated benchmark.
