Greenlist - SC Johnson

Greenlist is SC Johnson's proprietary ingredient evaluation system used to assess and rate the raw materials that go into its consumer products. The system covers more than 95 percent of the raw materials SC Johnson uses, spanning solvents, propellants, insecticides, packaging materials, and more. Each ingredient is assigned a rating on a scale from 0 to 3, where 3 is "Best," 2 is "Better," 1 is "Acceptable," and 0-rated materials are permitted only on a limited, approved basis when no viable alternative exists.

The Greenlist process is designed to push SC Johnson's formulation decisions beyond baseline regulatory compliance. By scoring ingredients against environmental and human health criteria, the system gives SC Johnson's product development teams a structured framework for continuously improving product formulations over time — favoring higher-rated ingredients and phasing out lower-rated ones where possible.

This program is internal to SC Johnson and is not an open certification that outside manufacturers or suppliers can apply for.
