Neuland

The Neuland label is a German certification for meat and meat products that come from livestock farming practices meeting high standards for animal welfare and environmental responsibility. Founded in 1988, Neuland is considered a pioneer in species-appropriate husbandry and small-scale farm-based meat marketing in Germany. The label covers criteria across the full production chain, including how animals are kept and fed, as well as transport conditions, with animal welfare being the central focus.

The certification is administered by Neuland Verein für tiergerechte und umweltschonende Nutztierhaltung e.V., a registered association whose guidelines define what qualifies a farm and its products to carry the Neuland mark. Farmers, processors, and retailers who meet these standards can become members of the association and market their products under the label.

For consumers, the Neuland label provides a credible signal that the meat they are buying was produced with meaningful attention to how animals were raised — going beyond the legal minimum requirements in Germany. For producers, it offers a way to differentiate their products in the market by demonstrating a commitment to more responsible farming practices.
