Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials

The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) is a global non-profit organization that develops and administers the RSB Global Sustainability Standard — a certification framework for the sustainable production, conversion, and use of biomass. The standard applies across a wide range of bio-based products, including biofuels, bioenergy, bio-plastics, biochemicals, and food additives. It is recognized by the European Union as proof of compliance with the Renewable Energy Directive, meaning RSB-certified operators producing liquid biofuels can access the EU market without additional verification.

RSB certification is relevant to companies in the consumer goods and energy sectors that source, produce, or convert biomass-derived materials and want to demonstrate credible sustainability credentials. The certification process involves an application and independent audit, after which operators can display the RSB Certification Mark. The standard is built around a multi-stakeholder framework developed with input from over 150 member organizations spanning industry, civil society, academia, and government bodies across more than 30 countries.

RSB is a full member of the ISEAL Alliance, meaning its standard-setting process meets internationally recognized codes of conduct for social and environmental standards.
