Minergie-A

Minergie-A is a building certification standard developed by the MINERGIE® Association for new and refurbished buildings in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. It represents the most demanding tier in the Minergie family of standards, targeting "Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings" as defined by EU Directive 2010/31. To earn the label, a building must meet strict requirements around energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and renewable energy self-sufficiency — and unlike the base Minergie and Minergie-P standards, Minergie-A also accounts for embodied energy, meaning the energy used in the construction of the building itself.

The standard is relevant to architects, engineers, and developers working on both new construction and renovation projects. Certification involves demonstrating compliance across planning and construction phases, with quality assurance measures in place to verify that energy-relevant building components are correctly installed and documented.

Minergie-A can be combined with the ECO add-on to form the Minergie-A-ECO standard, which extends the certification criteria to include health and ecological considerations such as indoor air quality and the environmental impact of building materials. This makes it a suitable choice for project teams seeking a comprehensive framework that addresses both energy performance and occupant wellbeing.
