Overview
Minergie-ECO is an add-on certification label developed by the MINERGIE® Association for new and refurbished buildings in Switzerland, France, and Liechtenstein. While the core Minergie standards (Minergie, Minergie-P, and Minergie-A) focus primarily on energy efficiency, the ECO extension broadens the scope to also cover health and ecological criteria — addressing factors such as indoor air quality, use of building materials, and occupant comfort in both living and working environments.
The certification is designed to be combined with one of the existing Minergie energy standards rather than used on its own. This means a building pursuing Minergie-ECO must first meet the energy performance requirements of its chosen base standard, and then additionally satisfy the health and ecology criteria introduced by the ECO designation. This makes it well suited for developers, architects, and building owners who want to demonstrate a comprehensive commitment to both energy performance and occupant well-being.
Minergie-ECO is relevant to anyone involved in the construction or renovation of buildings who operates in the Swiss or broader Francophone/Liechtenstein market and wants independent third-party recognition of their project's environmental and health credentials. It is particularly applicable in the construction industry where client demand for holistic sustainability certifications is growing.
