Phuis Associate

The Phius Associate designation is earned through the Phius Foundations training, which provides a 100-level introduction to key concepts in passive building. This course serves as a foundational step for all of Phius' professional certifications, including Phius Certified Consultant, Builder, Rater, and Verifier. The course is entirely self-guided, offering around eight hours of interactive content broken into nine modules, culminating in a one-hour exam. Upon passing the exam, participants are awarded the Phius Associate certification.

The training covers a range of essential topics, including the background of Phius, where participants learn about Phius' mission, goals, and the programs it offers to promote high-performance passive building. The course delves into building science, offering insights into how building science plays a crucial role in passive building strategies. Participants also gain a solid understanding of passive building principles, including mechanical systems and energy modeling.

Additional modules focus on the Phius Standards, explaining both performance-based and prescriptive paths for new construction and retrofitting. The course also covers the project certification process, guiding students through the steps and stakeholders involved in certifying passive projects.

Beyond technical knowledge, the course also explores the business case for passive building and how local and national policies impact the growth of Phius Certification. Through real-world case studies, participants can see practical applications of Phius standards in various projects.
